Green Coast believes in being an active part of the communities in which we operate. To do this, we host periodic all-team volunteer days as well as two floating paid volunteer days that employees can use to support their favorite non-profit organizations.
We are proud to have participated in the USGBC Louisiana Chapter’s 2014 Green Apple Day of Service at Schaumburg Elementary. Throughout the day, we picked up trash on the school grounds, participated in the health fair, and helped plant a raised bed garden for the school’s science classes. We also donated several bags of potting soil to fill the raised beds. The result? A beautiful vegetable garden that will grow healthy food for seasons to come.
We also participated in a clean-up day for the intersection near our Community Greens project at Washington Avenue and Broad Street. Though the intersection has a high traffic count and several businesses, it was heavily littered on the curbs and neutral grounds. In addition to picking up litter, the team removed several weeds and a long-dead tree from the sidewalk. We hope improving the curb appeal will encourage proper maintenance of the intersection long-term.
