Louisiana Landmarks Society Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation
The Louisiana Landmarks Society honored Green Coast partner, GCE Green Development, for its work in restoring 11 units in four historical buildings on Bienville Street. The buildings had suffered for years from neglect and were flooded from Hurricane Katrina and the levee failures, but, as GCE Green Development™s Ramsey Green puts it, there was tremendous potential not just architecturally but also in terms of location.
“The units are within two blocks of the new hospital corridor, so we knew if we renovated them, they would be a great addition to this resurrected neighborhood,” says Green. “Plus, the recently-opened Fresh Market at Bienville and Broad is just a short walk from these units as well as the Lafitte Greenway.”
In restoring the buildings, the team succeeded in preserving the historical architecture while simultaneously improving energy efficiency. All of the units are currently leased and occupied.
Green Lease Leader Recognition
The Institute for Market Transformation and the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Better Buildings Alliance recently named Green Coast Enterprises (Green Coast) a Green Lease Leader. Through the Better Buildings Challenge, Green Coast shared its entire energy portfolio with the DOE and is committed to reducing its energy consumption by 20 percent. Green Coast was one of just 17 companies to receive this honor.
