By foot or by bike there’s nothing like having a convenient path right outside your door that can lead you across the heart of New Orleans. For many renters, the Lafitte Greenway is quickly becoming a sought after place to live, eat, shop and see a movie, and a new historic redevelopment offers that possibility.

Green Coast partner GCE Green Development is completing work on 2606 St. Louis Street, a historic building that formerly housed the Tulane Industrial Laundry. The 32,000 square foot project features 12 one-bedroom apartments, which range in size from approximately 700 square feet to more than 900 square feet, and there are also three retail spaces available.

“These are great apartments for singles or couples,” says Ramsey Green, GCE Green Development partner. “The greenway is a convenient way to travel to work, or for pleasure, and most of the apartments have balconies, so you’ll have great views of the greenway, the neighborhood and the downtown skyline.•

Each apartment is furnished with a washer and dryer, stainless steel appliances, interior parking, bike storage and large closets. The project also features a number of green elements including tankless hot water heaters, and a storm water catchment system that uses rainwater for irrigation and the HVAC system.

Green says that some of the retail space has already been rented and that both commercial and residential tenants will begin moving in September/October.
