It took more than five years to get there, but for the Green Coast team, it was worth every second. With a full crowd of partners, family, friends and supporters, Green Coast along with their co-developers ERG Enterprises and Crescent City Community Land Trust celebrated the long anticipated opening of The Pythian at 234 Loyola Avenue.

The ceremony was moved indoors due to rain, and it seemed more fitting to see the community once again within the building™s historic walls. Numerous speakers recalled the work that went into redeveloping The Pythian and what its return meant to New Orleans while others fondly remembered what the building represented to the African American community.

Dodie Smith-Simmons, one of The Pythian’s new tenants and renowned civil rights activist, spoke about how she felt so welcome in her new home and how The Pythian would be the last place she lives in.

We are blessed to have friends and neighbors like Ms. Dodie living in The Pythian. When Green Coast’s Will Bradshaw and Lex Kelso first toured it in 2011, they realized this building was more than bricks, mortar and steel, and it has been an honor to return it to its former glory for present generations and generations yet to come.

p.s. Please take a look at our new The Pythian website() and see what it’s like to live in Downtown New Orleans!
