Two New Eateries Open on Washington and Broad
By Green Coast on 18 Oct 2013
Two new businesses are now open on the corner of Washington and Broad, serving up everything from salads and baked fries to pastries and cappuccino. Laurel Street Bakery, the second location of its name, boasts an extensive menu of healthy breakfast and lunch options, as well as a wide selection of baked goods, coffee, and tea. 3 Potato 4, serving baked fries as a healthy alternative to their oil-soaked counterparts, uses four types of potatoes and offers dozens of delectable sauces. Both businesses support Green Coast’s vision for community revitalization and incorporate an awareness of social and environmental issues.
Laurel Street Bakery held its opening celebration last Monday, complete with balloons, heartfelt speeches, and a surprise cake! 3 Potato 4 will hold its opening party tonight, hosted in conjunction with LifeCity and featuring a live DJ. However, both are already popular destinations for Green Coast employees and others in need of a healthy breakfast or mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
In 2007, we identified the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Broad Street as an important commercial zone with high potential to support the growth of local businesses. Once a thriving commercial center, our goal was to restore the once-blighted corridor to its rightful place in New Orleans’ commercial infrastructure. Thus far, the results have been both encouraging and delicious.
So whether you’re craving bagel sandwiches with fresh ingredients, sweet potato waffle fries with garlic ketchup, or a well-spiced chai latte, stop by and sample all that our new businesses have to offer. And while youkre there, be sure to check out our other tenants at the intersection, including Propeller, the South Broad Community Health Center, Impressive Printing, the Broadmoor Improvement Association, and Global Green, as well as yours truly.
