Laura Simpson, president of Dugas Pest Control, has won the 2014 the National Pest Management Association Women of Excellence Award and the 2014 PCT Crown Leadership Award.

The NPMA award recognizes women who demonstrate outstanding leadership and have made notable contributions to the development and growth of other women in the industry.

The U.S. Green Building Council Louisiana Chapter has recognized several local companies and individuals for their contribution to the green building movement.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette School of Design, the Champion Team Award. The design school has students design and build environmentally sustainable homes, using Leadership and Energy and Environmental Design standards, that are sold at market rate.

Erin Ryerson, an associate at VergesRome Architects and the chair of the Greenbuild Host Committee, the Community Champion Award, for her efforts soliciting local partners, developing tours, coordinating a Legacy Project, “greening” the city, engaging the community and recruiting volunteers for the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo.

Roy O. Martin-Martco Lumber Co. in Alexandria, the Innovation Champion Award, for its management plan of the company’s 582,000 acres of forest, certification by the Forestry Stewardship Council, sustainably harvesting its forests and making its manufacturing plants energy efficient.

New Orleans-based Green Coast Enterprises, the Operational Excellence Champion Award, for its work with New Orleans’ schools, particularly in improving indoor air quality and education for occupants of green buildings.
